On April 8, 2026 Prospects College of Higher Education came together to celebrate Sinhala and Tamil Avurudu at Viharamahadevi Park, creating a day filled with tradition, culture, and joy.
The celebrations began with the traditional Kiri Ithirima (Milk Boiling Ceremony), symbolizing new beginnings. This was followed by a series of Avurudu games bringing students together through friendly competition and excitement. The day was filled with vibrant dance performances by our own students, showcasing cultural pride and talent.
There was an informative presentation which was conducted by the student council, helping students understand the significance of Avurudu it’s customs and the values.
The celebrations continued with a spread of delicious Avurudu delicacies. Adding to the experience was an impressive exhibition by the Early Childhood Education diploma batch, where students creatively displayed models representing Sri Lankan and Tamil houses, traditional food tables, harvesting practices, and more.
It was truly a beautiful and memorable day, bringing the PCHE community together to celebrate heritage, unity, and the spirit of the New Year.
